Comedian Evan Wecksell Announces 2008 Helping Hand Tour

Fraternity Alumnus, Musical Comedian Evan Wecksell announces fall comedy tour through at least ten states.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA (OPENPRESS) August 20, 2008 - He may keep getting older, but Musical Comedian Evan Wecksell is still in college.

Beginning Wednesday, August 20, the comedian most recognized from his appearances on VH1 and E!, will embark on his "2008 Helping Hand Tour." The name of the tour is due to the fact that a portion of his shows will be recruitment events for his Theta Chi Fraternity whose motto is "The Helping Hand." Wecksell joined Theta Chi while attending Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.

While many fraternity recruitment events are meet and greets, the comedy show will provide the fraternity chapters an original difference in their schedule by appealing to students who may not initially want to rush the Greek system.

The tour begins with a Theta Chi recruitment event at Washington State University (WSU) in Pullman.

"I can't think of a better way to spend the opening night of rush," says Theta Chi Recruitment Chair Willie Cramer. "This is a great recruitment tool and it shows them [potential new members] what being a Theta Chi is all about."

Following the Pacific Northwest and North Carolina portions of his tour, Wecksell joins his wife Kelly Meyersfield on their native Long Island as they perform "College The Musical: A Musical About College" on September 1 at Farmingdale State College. Written and performed by Meyersfield and Wecksell, the show received rave reviews in Los Angeles back in February and both are excited to premiere the show for its intended audience.

Asked for some insight about "College," Meyersfield replied, "It's funny and people should come."

The next night, Wecksell has the privilege of returning to his alma mater for a show at Tufts University's "Brown & Brew." The show also starts him on the road up to Maine where he performs at University of Maine-Presque Isle and Kennebec Valley Community College on September 3 and 4, respectively.

The first segment of his tour concludes with a Theta Chi recruitment event at Wagner College on September 5, but his second tour leg includes a return to the Northeast with a performance at Castleton State College in Vermont on September 19 followed by his long-awaited return to University of Denver for a Theta Chi recruitment event.

"We are all really excited to have Evan Wecksell come and perform for our rush event," says Theta Chi President Daniel Rosen.  "I think it will be Theta Chi's biggest recruitment ever!"

Last year Wecksell performed at 45 colleges, and as he returns to the road, he emphasizes that quantity continues to include quality.

"I'm excited for every single show," says Wecksell. "And the fact that I will be in ten different states by October let's me know I'm doing something right."

And while Wecksell's schedule seems set through an October 14 show at Cal-State Fullerton, new shows continue to pop up and Wecksell is not surprised.

"Any day I could end up in any state," says Wecksell. "I'm a comedy whore."
